Editorial terms.
The scope of our boat-care and ownership guidance, including the related insurance information section.

Reviewed: 7 October 2026. The operator's legal identity and contact details have not yet been published. These editorial terms need operator and publication review before public publication. They do not claim regulatory approval or replace any rights you have under applicable law.
General information for boat owners.
Inland Boat publishes general UK inland boat maintenance and ownership information. A guide cannot diagnose a fault, certify a boat or replace a manufacturer-specific procedure. Check the guidance against your installation and its instructions. Gas, fuel, mains electricity and high-current battery work need appropriately qualified help.
Insurance is a related information section. Inland Boat is not an insurer or broker and does not give personal insurance advice, quote premiums, collect insurance applications, take payment or arrange or bind cover.
Articles, checklists and FAQs help you prepare questions. They do not assess whether a particular policy suits you or confirm that an incident, use of a boat or cruising area is covered.
Check the jurisdiction.
Navigation and licence requirements depend on the waterway, navigation authority and type of use. CRT material relates to its waterways in England and Wales; Environment Agency material relates to its waterways in England. Other UK waterways and authorities can have different requirements.
The geographic scope of a guide is not a governing-law clause for an insurance contract. Check your provider's documents for the jurisdiction, territorial limits, conditions and dispute process that apply to that contract.
Sources and changes.
Where official sources are cited, their recorded access dates and relevant jurisdiction are shown. An access date records an earlier check, not ongoing monitoring. Requirements and provider products may change.
Check current official requirements and obtain up-to-date policy wording directly from the provider before buying, renewing or changing how you use your boat. A BSS certificate or licence does not replace the insurance policy's terms.
Provider responsibility.
A linked provider is responsible for its own website, quotes, eligibility decisions, policy documents, payments, service and complaints process. An external link does not establish an endorsement, partnership or an offer of cover to you.
Quotes and purchases take place on third-party websites under their terms. Direct existing-policy enquiries and claims to the organisation named in your documents.
A selected directory.
Our provider directory is a selected editorial list. It is not a whole-market comparison, price ranking or personal recommendation. Inclusion does not mean a provider is the cheapest, best or available for every boat or use.
